Medical Examinations (Non NHS)

Certain services provided by the Doctors are not covered by the NHS and fees are payable for such items as:

  • Large Good Vehicle (LGV) and Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV) licences
  • Elderly driver licences       
  • Insurance
  • Preemployment medicals
  • Private certificates          
  • Holiday vaccinations
  • Insurance claims           
  • Fitness for sports

Please ask the receptionist for such services. Charges are payable at the time of attendance, and the BMA recommended scale of fees is on display at the reception desk. For further information please see Why do GP’s charge?

A current list of fees is displayed in our Waiting Area. It you have any queries regarding these, please enquire at Reception.

Medical Certificates

Self-certificates are available from your employer for sickness of up to one week. Any certificate required from the Doctor for periods up to the first week can only be provided as a private certificate for which there is a charge.

Phlebotomy Clinic

If you need bloods tests you may be given forms to take for the drop-in clinic at the City Care Centre. Blood tests can also be booked by appointment at the surgery.

Midwives

The Midwives offer antenatal and postnatal care at Wansford Surgery.

Falls Prevention class (strength and balance) – Mondays from 10am – 11am at Christie Hall, Wansford;

Falls Prevention class (strength and balance) – Wednesdays from 11am – 11.30am and 11.30am – 12pm at Kings Cliffe Active. Tea/coffee and a baked potato available in the community café afterwards;

Get Active Plus (introduction to exercise) – Tuesdays 6.30pm – 7.15pm; Wednesday 9am – 10am at Kings Cliffe Active;

The Jungle Body class (low impact, light cardio dance based) – Wednesdays 2.15pm – 3pm at Nassington Village Hall;

Mat based pilates – Mondays 6pm, Wednesday 12.30pm, Thursday 6pm at Christie Hall, Wansford;

Chairobics online – Tuesdays 4.30pm;

Taiji and Qigong  at Nassington Village Hall (helps with balance, leg strength, coordination and much more). Suitable for all ages and abilities and can be done standing or seated.  Mondays 2pm and Thursdays 7pm

‘Move it or Lose it’ – Stamford and South Lincolnshire villages, e.g Essendine and Bourne.

Healthy Walks – Kings Cliffe Working Me’s Club meet at 11am on Tuesdays;

Barnwell Country Parks in Oundle meet at 1.30pm on Wednesdays;

The Black Horse in Nassington meet at 11am on Fridays.

3 months – Option 1 – £15 joining fee and £25 per month; Option 2 – £75 up front.

Oundle Sports Centre, Oundle School in Oundle.

3 months – £20 assessment and joining fee then £3 per swim or use of fitness suite.

Premier Fitness Vivacity at Hampton, Peterborough.

6 months – £35 per month.

Your surgery has appointed a Social Prescribing Link Worker. This a specialist who can support you with issues that are affecting your health and wellbeing.

Health and Wellbeing Coach

If you would like some advice and support with weight loss, diet and exercise please ask the GP to refer you to our in-house health coach

Health Visitors

Our Health Visitors undertake developmental assessment of all pre-school children and provision of child health clinics. We also provide health surveillance and have a public health role within the local community.

Health Promotion

Advice is available regarding diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, stress and relaxation. We encourage active management of diabetes, asthma, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and the menopause.

NHS Health Checks

If you are aged 40 to 74 years and not currently treated for high blood pressure or diabetes you may be eligible for an NHS health check. Please ask at reception.

All patients over 75 who do not already attend the surgery for an annual review are welcome to book a health check with the health care assistant. The health care assistant will check your blood pressure, weight, height, urine and enquire about any health needs. Please book with the receptionist if you wish to have a health check.

Flu Vaccinations

These are offered each autumn to all patients aged 65 and over and those other groups who are most at risk.

Family Planning

You can access family planning services either through your GP appointment, or you can book with our Practice Nurse. We offer a full range of services including coils and implant fitting.

Dispensary

If you live in one of the rural areas of the practice, you are entitled to get medicines from either Wansford or Kings Cliffe surgery.
